360° Photography Full Circle

There are photographs, and then there are spaces. A photograph shows what something looks like. A 360° tour lets you walk around inside it.

I’ve been shooting 360° photography since before most people knew it was a thing — first Google Street View photographer in Ireland, as it happens. Not something I’d normally lead with, but it does give you a sense of how long this stuff has been in my camera bag. A long time. Long enough to have shot gigapixel panoramas for blue-chip clients across Europe and beyond, built custom virtual tours from scratch, and figured out most of what can go wrong and how to stop it.

The work spans a fair bit of ground. Matterport scanning and digital twin creation for commercial properties, retail, hospitality, architectural and heritage spaces. Bespoke 360° tours — built properly, designed around how your client actually needs to experience the space, not just a template with your logo dropped in. VR and 360 video. And yes, still Google Street View — both exterior and interior Business View.

Gigapixel panoramas might sound like a novelty, but they’re not. When a client needs a single image that can be zoomed into at extraordinary resolution — a vast venue, a skyline, a factory floor, a conference arena — that’s the tool. I’ve delivered these for international brands who needed something that would hold up at enormous scale, in print and digital. The detail, frankly, is a bit mad when you get into it.

With Matterport, the digital twin side of things, the practical uses are broader than people think. Architects, interior designers, property agents, facilities managers, insurance assessors — a precise, navigable 3D model of a space saves a lot of back-and-forth. And it’s a very useful thing to have on record before anything changes.

The way I approach 360° work is much the same as any other shoot — figure out what you need, plan accordingly, show up with the right kit, and deliver something you can actually use. 360 photography has its own particular technical demands, but the fundamentals are the same as ever: light, patience, and knowing what you’re doing.

If you’ve a space worth showing properly — a hotel, a venue, a showroom, an architectural project, a heritage site — and you want people to actually get a sense of it before they arrive, this is worth a conversation.
