Razzmatazz
Everyone Gets the Good Photo
There’s a moment at every gala, every awards night, every properly turned-out Dublin evening where someone walks through the door and the room notices. They’ve made the effort. The outfit is right, the hair is right, the mood is right. That moment deserves a photograph that’s equal to it.
This is the setup. A clean backdrop — step and repeat branding, a branded panel, or something more bespoke — with lighting that’s been thought about rather than just pointed. Soft, flattering, the kind of light that makes everyone look like they knew they were going to be photographed and had planned accordingly. Which, to be fair, most of them had.
The technical side is straightforward. The human side takes a bit more. Moving a line of guests through efficiently without it feeling like a conveyor belt, putting people at ease when they’re not entirely sure what to do with their hands, getting a clean usable frame of every single person who steps in front of the camera — that’s the job. Some people are naturals. Some need half a second of direction and a genuine laugh. Most just need to feel like it’s a good crack rather than an ordeal.
The results go everywhere. Corporate social media, event coverage, client entertainment records, personal keepsakes. Images that say this was a proper night, it was worth dressing up for, and the organisation behind it takes its events seriously.
For sponsors and brand partners the step and repeat delivers consistent logo placement across every frame — clean, legible, present without being overbearing. Every photograph from the evening becomes a quiet piece of branded content.
Dublin does this kind of evening well. The venues are grand, the guests make the effort, and there’s enough natural good humour in a room full of people in their glad rags to make the whole thing genuinely enjoyable to photograph.
A bit of razzmatazz never hurt anyone. Might as well have the pictures to prove it.
